ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

The Mass Communication programme offers three(3) and four (4) year undergraduate degree programmes for students within the auspices of the department and faculty leading to the award of a Bachelor of Science (B.sc Hons) degree  in Mass Communication.

Courses taught at the undergraduate levels are oriented towards providing general base knowledge in skills in Mass Communication. Such knowledge and skills acquired by the students serve to prepare them for choices of specialization in any one of the following fields in mass communication at graduate studies levels.

The specialized areas include:

  • Broadcasting
  • Public Relations
  • Online and New Media
  • Print Journalism
  • Advertising

Any other specific sub – areas as may be desired by the student towards Post graduate levels studies are also considered for students’ interest.

Admission for a Four (4) Year Programme

Admission into the four years first degree B.sc (Hons) of the mass communication programme is by the UTME examination and / or any other conditions added to this in accordance with the general NUC, JAMB and AE-FUNAI admission requirements as are provided by the regulating authorities in charge of admission processes into Nigerian Universities.

All candidates seeking admissions into the first degree courses under the four years programme in Mass Communication in AE-FUNAI must possess a senior secondary school certificate (SSCE) or ordinary level General Certificate of Education (GCE) organized by West African Examination Council (WAEC) or National Examination Council (NECO) or their equivalents with at least five (5) credit passess obtained at not more than two sittings.

Entry Requirements

Entry subjects must be evidenced by five credits that should include: English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and any other two subjects of the social sciences or Arts disciplines such as Government, History or Economics required by the AE_FUNAI?NUC for admission into first degree programmes in Nigerian Universities.

UTME SUBJECTS

The required UTME subjects are: English Language, Literature in English and any other two Art/Social Sciences subjects required for examinations at UTME level.

ADMISISON INTO THREE (3) YEAR PROGRAMME (DIRECT ENTRY)

Direct entry candidates must obtain the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communcation of any University or Polytechnic approved by the NUC and AE-FUNAI not less than a GPA of 3.0.

Also accepted for direct entry admissions are students with JUPEB certificate as are obtained in the AE-FUNAI centre for Educational Services at the foundational stage.

The students to be admitted on direct entry will be required to present a transcript from the University or Polytechnic.

Candidates with GCE (A LEVEL) are no longer considered for direct entry in Mass Communication because of the subject combinations and lack of professional foundation in advanced level subjects, such ‘A LEVEL’ candidates are advised to take UTME and should also possess five credit passes in WASCE, NECO OR GCE O’ level as slated above.

CLASS OF DEGREE TO BE AWARDED BY THE PROGRAMME

Having fulfilled all the requirements for the award of a B.Sc degree in Mass Communication and subject to the grade of cumulative grade point average (CGPA) obtained by each of the candidates throughout the duration of academic studies, such candidates shall be awarded any of the following categories/classes of degree:
