AE-FUNAI DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE KICKS-OFF LECTURE SERIES

The Department of Agriculture,  Faculty of Agriculture, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi state, has kick-started its departmental lecture series.

The maiden edition of the lecture titled, “Writing Good Quality Papers and Publishing in Top-Tier Journals”, which was held recently at the Faculty’s conference room attracted scholars and researchers from  various departments of the University.

While declaring the  event open, the Vice- Chancellor,  Prof. Sunday  Elom, who was represented by the Director of Partnerships, Prof. Friday Nwalo commended  the Faculty and the organizers  for the initiative.

He encouraged the university’s  lecturers to breast up with the challenges of 21st education  by working hard to be in tune with global best practices in their respective disciplines.

The Vice Chancellor further stressed his commitment towards  providing the enabling environment and support to enable academics to fulfill their teaching, research and professional dreams and aspirations.

He added that everyone who aspires to attain global recognition as an academic   need to put more effort in research work , stressing that what matters,  is the quality of  research papers not the quantity.

While speaking at the lecture,  the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Abel Ezeoha who was represented by the Head, Department of Agribusiness, Dr. Anthony Oko- Isu, noted that the Department of  Agriculture of the University has taken the initiative to enhance academic excellence in the field of agricultural research.

He maintained that the ability to write high-quality papers and publish in prestigious journals is not only an essential skill for a researcher but also a crucial factor in advancing scientific knowledge and making significant contributions in their respective fields.

Continuing, he stated that the seminar will shed more light on the strategies for academics to identify top-tier journals and also   understand the guidelines while submitting their work.

He further encouraged every member of the Faculty to actively participate and learn how to write a good quality research paper and emphasized  the importance of coming together as a community of scholars to harness the power of effective academic writing and publishing.

Earlier in her submission, the Dean,  Faculty of Agriculture,  Dr. Christiana Igberi urged the  participants to  endeavour to get more information that will help in making their papers to gain international acceptability

Delivering the maiden  lecture titled, “Writing Good-Quality Papers and Publishing in Top-Tier Journals”, Dr. Robert Onyeneke said that the idea of the lecture was to build the academic brand, image and reputation of the University and its researchers.

In the depth of his lecture, he pointed out that writing good quality papers that will be published in top journals to gain global recognitions requires  academic excellence

He added that in writing, the researcher needs to have styles and also flow with the journal requirements and more importantly collaborate with  senior colleagues in order to attract  international recognition.

He noted that in publishing in international journals, the researcher will have to indicate and explain why the paper is important for publishing, stressing that in order to gain global recognition and publish in top-tier journal, the papers will be assessed to ascertain the quality of the research, which in his words,  is  the most objective way of measuring a good quality paper.

Dr. Robert further advised the participants to be serious-minded and up and doing to  gain international recognition through their journal papers.
