Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State has been ranked 7th out of 68 universities that participated in the Pan African Debating Championship (PAUDC) held in Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya from 8th to 15th December, 2022.
AE-FUNAI was one of the two universities that represented Nigeria at the competition which drew universities, students’ debaters and public speakers from the African continent.
The University was represented at the event by Ekemini David of the Department of Guidance and Counseling, Chiagoziem Igwebuike of the Department of Biotechnology, Onwe Uchendu of the Department of Political Science and Nwele Stanley of the Law Faculty. The University contingent to the event was led by the Deputy Dean, Students’ Affairs, Ms. Chiaka Nnodi.
Ekemini David emerged as one of the top 10 public speakers at the competition, coming 7th and the only Nigerian student to make the top 10 list in Africa while Stanley Nwele was ranked 28th out of 68 participants.
Some of the Universities that participated at the event are; VERITAS University, Abuja, Kwame Nkurumah University of Science and Technology, Accra, University of Development, South Africa and University of Ghana, Legon, Nelson Mandela University, South Africa, Strathmore University, Nairobi etc.
Recall that the University had qualified to represent Nigeria at the championship during the 9th edition of the All Nigerian Universities Debating Championship and All Nigerian Universities Quiz Challenge themed “Better by Far 2022” held from 13th-19th February, 2022 at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State.
