PRESIDENTIAL VISITATION PANEL TO AE-FUNAI COMMENCES SITTING

The Presidential Visitation Panel for Alex Ekwueme Federal University  Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, set up by the President and Commander – in – -Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, who is also the Visitor to the other 37 Federal Universities and 4 Inter-University Centres, has commenced its sitting in the University.

The purpose of the Visitation Exercise is to review the performance of the University in the areas of Governance, Academic Standards, Quality Assurance, Management of Finances, relationships among the Management, Staff and Students, Physical Infrastructure and Instructional Facilities. At the end, the Panel is expected to advise the Federal Government accordingly.

The Visitation Exercise which is for the period of 2011 to 2020 has the former Nigerian Ambassador to the United Nations, HE Ambassador Usman Sarki as Chairman. Other members of the panel include; Dr. Modupeola B. Adeniran,        Dr. Wilfred A. Iguodala, Alh, Usman Ibrahim Shehu, Prof. Victor Dugga and  Prof. Ollubunmi A. Omotesho while Dr. Victoria Terkumber Pillah is the Secretary.

During a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Elom yesterday, which also marked the commencement of their work in the institution, the Chairman of the Panel,       Ambassador Sarki expressed their  sincere appreciation and highest regards  to President Buhari who deemed it fit to constitute Visitation Panels to Thirty-Eight (38) Federal Universities and Four (4) Inter- University  Centers , adding that the purpose of the Visitation Exercise was to review the performance of AE-FUNAI in the areas of Governance, Academic  Standards, Quality Assurance, Management of Finances, the relationship between Management on one hand, Staff and Students , on the other hand the condition  of physical  Infrastructure as well as Instructional Facilities and thereafter advice the Government accordingly.

He also noted that they were a Visitation Panel and not an inquisition panel, and therefore encouraged the University to work with them to discharge their responsibilities without hitches.

 

Ambassador Sarki further congratulated Prof. Elom on his recent appointment as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of the University, and wished him well during his tenure.

 

Earlier while welcoming the Presidential Visitation Panel at his Conference Room, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elom, stated that the University was established on 26th February, 2011, adding that it was 10 years and 2months old. He also explained that the University started academic calendar on November 5, 2012 with 3 Faculties but now it has 11 Faculties, a College of Medicine and a Postgraduate school.

He further stressed that AE-FUNAI aspires to be a world class University, as such ensures the maintenance of a stable academic calendar, adding that in the past 5 years it has consistently held a convocation ceremony every year, which has made the University to be regarded as one of the most serious public universities in Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the members of the Panel to feel at home and assured that the University Management would cooperate with the team to achieve a common goal.

The Presidential Visitation Panel holds its sitting at the Council Chamber, Ground Floor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba’s Senate Building, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.

 

For all those interested in submitting memoranda to the panel, all submissions should be type-written, duly signed and addressed to the Chairman, Presidential Visitation Panel to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.

Ten (10) hard copies of the memos should be sealed and dropped in the drop box located at the entrance of the Council Chamber, Ground Floor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba’s Senate Building, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. While e-copies should be forwarded to the Panel’s email address: pvpaefunai@gmail.com on or before May 10th, 2021.
